Born out of the depression, the Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market turned 80 this weekend.

The market was founded by seven women in 1932 when Wisconsin Avenue was nothing but a small dirt road. Plagued by the hardships of the depression, the market was opened to sell produce and farm goods.

Now eight decades later, the site still buzzes four days a week providing baked good, produce as well as flea market items. For the 80th birthday celebration, market goers enjoyed a live band, face painting, raffles and goodies provided by the market vendors.

The indoor market is open Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The outside market is open Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
