A new 14-story office building for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is nearing completion on Marinelli Lane near the White Flint Metro Station, an early milestone in the dramatic changes planned for North Bethesda.

Over the next 25 years, the multiple new developments approved in the 2010 White Flint Sector Plan will bring more than 14,000 housing units and 13 million square feet in commercial space to both sides of Rockville Pike.

Construction is underway on the The Aurora, an 18-story, 341-unit apartment building two blocks east of Rockville Pike.

Nearby, where developer LCOR will build 280,000 square feet of retail, a 320-room Westin hotel and a Wishbone suspension bridge over the White Flint Metro Station platform, construction sheds have been installed and trucks are entering the fenced off lot.

Construction is also ongoing at the southwest corner of Mid-Pike Plaza, the first phase of the Pike & Rose project that developer Federal Realty broke ground on in July.

The Pike & Rose development, across the street from the White Flint Metro Station along Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road, will bring 3.4 million square feet of mixed-use development.


The first phase includes 492 housing units and 390,000 commercial square feet. The entire project, what Federal Realty declared as the first major project in the redevelopment of White Flint, is scheduled to open in 2014.
