If I’m going to spend a lot of money on an item of clothing, I always think about how many times I’ll actually wear it and how. There is nothing worse than spending way too much on a shirt, jacket or a pair of pants only to find it sitting in the back of the closet with the tags on it a year later.
For this post, I teamed up Rosana Vollmerhausen, personal shopper and stylist. Vollmerhausen, a Silver Spring native and owner of DC Style Factory, has seven years experience styling for individuals, local fashion events and photos shoots. So, who better to show us how to maximize that one investment piece (a $395 Theory blazer in this case) to make sure we get our money’s worth?
See how Rosana styles this blazer for many different occasions….
Weekend Casual
My favorite outfit combinations are those that combine dressier and more relaxed elements. The tailored jacket paired with slouchy boyfriend jeans, some playful wedges, and a pop of color (purse) adds a grown-up feel to this casual look.

Copley Saddlebag (J.Crew – Chevy Chase Pavilion)
Office Chic
Leather is big this fall season so i knew i wanted to work it into a couple of the looks. The obvious choice would be for going out, but leather can also be sophisticated and work-appropriate if done in a knee-length pencil skirt. Leather always has an edgy feel to it and can come off severe so i wanted to pair the skirt with pieces that felt “softer,” — like the sweater vest and the petal pink pumps.

Going Out
Office blazer…sexy? With some leather leggings and killer pumps…yes! The leather leggings, animal-print clutch, green pumps all have a sexy, look-at-me feel and the blazer helps tone down and anchor all those elements.
