The owners of the popular Olazzo restaurants will be switching from red sauce to salsa with the opening of a taqueria in Bethesda sometime this fall.
Roberto and Riccardo Pietrobono, along with Olazzo general manager and childhood friend Marc Miranian, will be bringing their new venture to 4928 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda, site of the former Bangkok One eatery.
The brothers have been serving spot-on classic Italian dishes at their Olazzo restaurant in Bethesda since 2002; they opened a Silver Spring location in 2007.
The as-of-yet-unnamed taqueria will emphasize the cuisine of the Pueblan region of Mexico, located in the east-central part of the country. Longtime Olazzo chef and Pueblan native Miguel Linares will oversee the development of the menu, which is currently a work in progress.
Menu items will be tested and perfected at Olazzo Bethesda, according to Roberto Pietrobono.
The new taqueria will also offer an extensive cocktail program with a variety of mescals and tequilas.
In keeping with Roberto Pietrobono’s style, the space will sport a rustic look.
“We look forward to bringing another neighborhood-friendly place to Bethesda,” Pietrobono said. “We believe with all the present and future development planned for Woodmont Triangle, that the opportunity to take over the space was too good to pass up.”
