The space that used to house EuroMotorcar’s Rolls-Royces will soon be turning out high class breads, pastries and other French specialties. The Fresh Baguette, owned by three Frenchmen and soon staffed with a fresh-from-France baker, will be opening sometime this fall at 4919 Bethesda Avenue.

An item picturing the new storefront was first reported by blogger Robert Dyer.

In an interview, store manager Eddy Bouillot said the bakery is co-owned by him and two other partners, all of whom hail from France, where they operate small food businesses. One of the partners, who years ago worked at the Pentagon, had lived in Bethesda and is familiar with the area, Bouillot said.

Aside from breads and pastries, the kitchen will be turning out sandwiches, ice cream and other sweets, and everything will be made from scratch.

Fresh Baguette will be a “modern concept with French savoir faire,” Bouillot explained, adding that too many American versions of French bakeries are wood-paneled and old-fashioned. In France, they don’t look like that anymore, he said.

The interior, while still under construction, sports hot pink walls and an open kitchen where customers will be able to watch the action.

“It will be a show every time the baker takes a baguette out of the oven,” Bouillot said. “It will be an entertaining bakery.”
