A popular Gaithersburg bar and restaurant is hoping to provide a casual neighborhood favorite in North Bethesda.

The people behind Quincy’s Bar and Grille off Quince Orchard Road hope to open another location — Quincy’s South Bar and Grille — by August 1 at 11401 Woodglen Drive.

“We see a void there for a neighborhood place at a good price point,” said owner Marty Magill. “And that’s something we think we can bring and then cater to people who maybe want some late night entertainment.”

Magill anticipates four nights of live music a week to go along with a 36-seat bar and dining room with full-service menu.

Bryan Ortiz, who helmed the kitchen at the now shuttered Royal Mile Pub in Wheaton, will be Magill’s chef and fill the menu with traditional family restaurant fare, plus some unique items, such as kung pow calamari.

“It kind of fits in that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives kind of mode,” Magill said, referring to the Food Network show.


Magill and his wife Alexis bought the Gaithersburg Quincy’s in 2008. While searching for a location for a second restaurant, the growth planned for the North Bethesda/White Flint area certainly played a factor.

“A lot of it was the things that are coming up in that area,” Magill said. “What we’re trying to do is find a place where there was a lot of foot traffic and a neighborhood setting.”

The restaurant will be next to a few others on the ground floor of a mid-rise office building near Woodglen Drive and Nicholson Lane. It’s in the spot of develeoper JBG’s North Bethesda Market II project and one day will be a 300-foot, roughly 400-unit apartment building.


That building will be in the second phase of the project. JBG hopes to start construction on the first phase next year.
