Sport & Health Opens at Pike & Rose
It seems like every few days a new business is opening at Pike & Rose as the Federal Realty development completes its first phase of construction. Over the weekend Sport & Health opened its new North Bethesda location at the mixed-use project at the corner of Rockville Pike and Old Georgetown Road. The fitness facility features a spinning room, sauna, group exercise room and a yoga studio.

&pizza Opens Gaithersburg Location

&pizza is continuing its rapid takeover of the Washington, D.C., area with another new location that opens today at Crown in Gaithersburg. The fast-casual pizza parlors offer make-your-own pies with a variety of ingredients to choose from, which are cooked in a Quiznos-like assembly line oven. The business operates eight locations after first launching on H Street in the District in June 2012. The Gaithersburg location will be the company’s third in Montgomery County; others are in Bethesda and Germantown and another is planned for Pike & Rose in North Bethesda.
Lerch Early & Brewer Celebrates 65 Years
The Bethesda business and real estate law firm Lerch Early & Brewer is celebrating 65 years in business this month. The firm launched Feb. 1, 1950, in a small office near the White House with five attorneys and a paralegal, according to a release announcing the milestone. Now it employs more than 100 in 12 practice areas. The firm is based at 3 Metro Center in downtown Bethesda.
Junior Tennis Champions Center to Take Over Instruction at YMCAs in Bethesda and Silver Spring
The Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC), a College Park-based instructional program that aims to be one of the best junior tennis development programs in the world, is taking over the tennis instruction programs at YMCA Bethesda and YMCA Silver Spring. The center announced the partnership last week. The JTCC plans to offer financial assistance to families that may not be able to afford tennis instruction and also said in a statement that “we are guaranteeing to have adult beginners playing tennis on the court in just three weeks” who learn at the YMCAs.
The Nonprofit Village Announces 2015 Making a Difference Award Recipients
The Nonprofit Village in Rockville announced last week it has selected four businesses and nonprofits for its 2015 Making a Difference awards. The awards highlight groups thathave made a commitment to helping area nonprofits and to developing innovative collaborations in Montgomery County. The winners will be honored at a breakfast May 1 at the Bethesda Marriott. The following awards were announced:
- Individual—Steven Mandel of Crossroads Community Food Network (Takoma Park)
- Small nonprofit making a difference—Pain Connection (Rockville)
- Large nonprofit making a difference—YMCA Youth and Family Services (Montgomery County)
- Corporation making a difference—Discovery Communications (Silver Spring)
