Bethesda Barbecue Company will be closed to the public for the next several weeks while repairs and renovations are made, owner/chef Dennis Friedman said Monday.

“For the next few weeks we will be doing catering events only,” Friedman said in an email. “This allows for previously scheduled maintenance and repairs/renovations and website updating during the slower summer months.”

Friedman said the repairs and renovations are necessary because of damage caused by a power outage in April. After the outage, the restaurant was closed for a week as repairs were made to the restaurant’s ventilation hood system and some refrigeration units, he said.

Friedman opened the barbecue spot in January on Elm Street in Bethesda after running Newton’s Table at the same location since 2011.
