Bombay Gaylord plans return to Silver Spring after fire-ravaged space is rebuilt

The family behind the Bombay Gaylord Indian restaurant in Silver Spring plans to reopen once the restaurant’s fire-ravaged space is repaired. Thomas Gomes, son of restaurant owners Kalistus and Celine Gomes, said in an email earlier this month that the clean-up work is underway and they’re waiting on word from the landlord about reopening at the location, although there’s no timeline for doing so.

A fire struck the Georgia Avenue restaurant in March, leaving a charred dining room in its wake and damaging neighboring businesses such as The Quarry House Tavern and Kefa Café.

World of Beer Scheduled for Liquor License Hearing

The World of Beer restaurant coming to the new Upton apartment building near Rockville Town Square is scheduled to appear Sept. 3 before the Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners on its application for a liquor license. A leasing manager at The Upton said in July the beer-focused pub could open as early as this month, but that doesn’t appear likely as construction is ongoing at the 196-B East Montgomery Ave. location.

Also, Sandy Nails, a salon on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda, has applied for the county’s special salon beer and wine license and is scheduled to appear at the Sept. 3 hearing. The $100 license would allow the salon to serve a glass of beer, wine or champagne to customers while they receive a manicure or pedicure.
