The Japanese restaurant Matuba in Bethesda’s Woodmont Triangle will change into a Japanese deli that will continue to offer sushi, but also a range of sides and new entrees, according to owner Kunio Yasutake.
It will be closed while it alters the concept and is expected to reopen next week, Yasutake said Tuesday morning.
The deli will be a fast-casual concept, in which customers order at a counter, and will offer entrees at lower prices than the traditional restaurant did, according to Yasutake.
Yasutake said he previously sold the restaurant, but assumed ownership again this month after the new owners were unable to make it profitable. The restaurant has been in business for about 35 years at its Cordell Avenue location next to Caddie’s.
