Updated Tuesday – A new beer emporium is ready to serve up suds in Rockville.
World of Beer opened its new franchise location in town center on Memorial Day. On Sunday afternoon, the restaurant’s extensive tap lines were flowing and the large refrigerator behind the bar was filled with hundreds of beer bottles.
The chain is known for serving more than 500 varieties of beer and the Rockville location has 50 on tap, with another 450 or so in bottles and cans. The new restaurant is on the ground floor of the Upton apartment building, near Montgomery County Circuit Court.
Inside, the restaurant maintains the tavern look of the other franchises with exposed brick walls, wood tables and a long bar. There’s also a patio that seats 70 along East Montgomery Avenue.
Franchise owner Matthew Earl, who is behind the company’s Towson location and the future Bethesda restaurant, operates the Rockville location. Earl said Sunday he’s looking at a November or December opening for the Bethesda World of Beer, which is being built-out at The JBG Co.’s 7200 Wisconsin Ave. building, near Bethesda Row.
Earl said the county’s Department of Liquor Control has been “very helpful” in supplying the restaurant’s voluminous beer selection. He said the restaurant has about 95 percent of the beers it typically serves at its other 50-plus locations.
He added they’ve also included local breweries to their lineup—with Silver Spring’s Denizens Brewing Co. and Rockville’s 7 Locks Brewery among the options. The restaurant serves pub fare such as hamburgers, wings and sandwiches as well as salads, flatbreads and German pretzels.
