Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s coming to Rockville’s Federal Plaza
Funky Austin-based Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s plans to open its first Maryland location this fall, two years after announcing plans to expand in the Washington, D.C., area. The restaurant company already has four Northern Virginia locations, making the new Rockville restaurant its fifth in the region. The restaurants are adorned with folk art like painted hubcaps, carved wooden fish and Elvis shrines. The menu is comprised of quesadillas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas and other Tex-Mex staples, while the bar serves margaritas made with fresh-squeezed lime juice. The restaurant is opening in a 7,300-square-foot space at Federal Plaza, the shopping center known for the Silver Diner that borders Rockville Pike near its entrance. Local retail blog Store Reporter, which first reported Chuy’s entrance into the local market, noted the restaurant will replace the recently closed Ruby Tuesday at the shopping center.
New Vietnamese deli set to open in Silver Spring
Dip N Rolls lunch menu items via restaurant’s website
Dip N Rolls, a deli and café with a focus on organic food and Vietnamese cuisine, is set to open soon on Colesville Road in Silver Spring. Restaurant owner Lan Pham said Wednesday she’s planning to open the deli in about two weeks. The restaurant’s website says its name comes from the chef’s childhood nickname, “Roll,” because she “is short, chubby and very ‘rounded.’ ” The breakfast and lunch menus will feature Vietnamese specialties—such as banh mi sandwiches and spring rolls—as well as yogurt parfaits, Cuban sandwiches and chicken paninis. The restaurant also plans to offer catering. Dip N Rolls is opening at 8737 Colesville Road, near the Spring Street intersection.
Stanford Grill to host fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Rockville restaurant Stanford Grill will host a happy hour Thursday that will double as a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area. From 5 to 7 p.m. the restaurant will donate 30 percent of all proceeds from the happy hour to the nonprofit that connects children with adult mentors. The large, upscale restaurant opened in September at 2000 Tower Oaks Blvd.
