Dean & DeLuca, the food purveyor known regionally for its Georgetown location, is opening a store in downtown Bethesda.
The new location will open in a retail space at 4749 Bethesda Ave., across from Barnes & Noble, which is under development by The JBG Cos.
“We are looking forward to deepening our commitment to the Capitol District with a foodie footprint in the sophisticated Bethesda area,” Bayani Lauraya, the global president of the food company said in a statement. “Our hope is that Dean & DeLuca will become known as the finest local market for the Bethesda community, meeting the same great response as we’ve received in Georgetown.”
The Bethesda location will offer the same mix of cheeses, charcuterie, baked goods, produce, meats, seafood, coffees and prepared food as it does at the well-known Georgetown location on M Street in Washington, D.C. A fall 2017 opening is projected.

The store will be part of JBG’s major overhaul of the office building near the intersection of Bethesda and Woodmont avenues. Once completed the building at 4747 Bethesda Ave. will contain 280,000 square feet of office space and 7,000 square feet of retail, according to JBG.
The food company currently has locations in New York City, Charlotte, Kansas City and St. Helena in the U.S., with plans to expand to Plano, Texas.
Dean & DeLuca was founded in 1977 by Joel Dean and Giorgio DeLuca in SoHo in New York City.
Update: Due to an error from a Dean & DeLuca spokesperson the opening was originally reported as spring 2017, it is in fact projected to open in the fall of 2017. The story has been updated.
