Metropolitan Police say Grant Copeland Dosunmu, 21, was shot and killed in his car a short distance from his home in the Hawthorne neighborhood of Washington, near Rock Creek Park and about 1.5 miles from Chevy Chase Circle.
Detectives say they were called to the 6900 block of 32nd Street Northwest about 9:30 p.m. Sunday for a destruction of property call. When police officers arrived, they found Dosunmu in the car with multiple gunshot wounds.
Police said it appeared the shooter had been inside the car, a Jaguar, with the victim. Dosunmu lived on Chestnut Street, about two blocks away.
About two hours before and less than 2 miles away, a woman was carjacked at gunpoint, police said.
The woman told NBC Washington a man with a gun confronted her as she headed to the 5600 block of Western Avenue after going to a grocery store. The man took off with her car and left her unhurt.
The television station said police cannot yet determine whether the same person or people who killed Dosunmu carjacked the woman.
