Two pharmacies were robbed in Bethesda and a robbery was attempted at a third in Silver Spring early Thursday, Montgomery County police said.

The first robbery occurred about 2:50 a.m. at CVS Pharmacy, 6917 Arlington Road, Bethesda, Officer Rick Goodale said. A man, armed with a handgun, entered the store, assaulted the clerk and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Goodale said.

The robber wore dark clothing with his face concealed, he said.

The clerk was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, Goodale said.

About two hours later, at 5:16 a.m., an armed man in dark clothing with his face covered tried to rob the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 1411 East West Highway, Silver Spring, Goodale said.

The man fled before getting anything, he said. Goodale said he didn’t know whether the robber was interrupted or left for some other reason. The clerk was not assaulted, he said.

The manager at the Wisconsin Avenue CVS said Thursday morning no one was hurt during the robbery.
