County transportation planners are holding a series of March open house meetings to boost a proposal for bringing bus rapid transit to Route 29.
The meetings will take place in Silver Spring and will focus on the planning and implementation of the bus system. Project leaders will also talk about how the BRT will benefit residents.
County Executive Ike Leggett in 2015 announced the county’s first BRT system would begin running in 2020 along Route 29. BRT would rely on bus-only lanes to provide faster service than existing bus routes.
Transportation officials say the system will take cars off the road, save riders money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Here is the meeting schedule:
-
March 7, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Silver Spring Civic Building, 1 Veterans Plaza;
-
March 13, 7 to 9 p.m., Montgomery Blair High School, 51 University Blvd. East; and
-
March 15, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., White Oak Community Center, 1700 April Lane.
