The landlord of Quincy’s in Bethesda has sued the bar’s owners for failure to pay four months of rent, according to a document posted on the door of the Del Ray Avenue bar Monday.
The sports bar’s owners failed to pay rent from Dec. 1, 2016, to March 31, according to the document. With a monthly rent of $14,216 in addition to taxes and late fees, the total requested by the landlord, Frank Emmet Real Estate Inc., comes to $73,926.
The owners of the 4920 Del Ray Ave. bar, which has been “temporarily closed” since March 7, were summoned to appear in the Montgomery County District Court in Rockville on April 5.
When reached Monday afternoon, Sam White, a co-owner of Quincy’s, said he had not seen the document and was not aware of the claim. He said “the plan was, yes, to reopen” Quincy’s, but said he would not comment on the suit.
Frank Emmet Real Estate Inc. could not be reached for comment, but Tim Cole, a lawyer representing the landlord, said the suit would be dismissed if the tenant pays all of the outstanding rent. If the rent is not paid, the landlord will seek a court judgment for the outstanding amount, he said.
After “temporarily closed” signs appeared on the bar, Arnie Fainman, another co-owner of Quincy’s, told Bethesda Beat on March 8 that the bar was closing because a heating unit needed to be replaced and said the bar would reopen, but he didn’t know when.
Quincy’s opened last summer in Bethesda and served a traditional tavern menu in its 100-seat interior and 25-seat patio space. The bar has two other locations, Quincy’s in Gaithersburg and Quincy’s South in North Bethesda, both of which remain open.
