A school bus and a car crashed in Potomac Monday afternoon, seriously injuring one person in the car, though no one in the bus was hurt, a rescue official said.

The bus and car crashed at the intersection of Falls Road and Stanmore Drive in Potomac at about 4 p.m. The driver of the car was trapped and had to be extricated before medics took the person to a hospital with injuries that were serious, but didn’t appear to be life-threatening, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer said in an interview.

Two students were on the bus at the time, but the students and the bus driver were not injured, Piringer said.

Piringer was not sure how the crash occurred, but the car was damaged on its driver’s side.

He also could not confirm if the bus was a Montgomery County Public School bus. Two MCPS buses appear in photos from the scene, but Piringer was not certain if either was involved.

Montgomery County police were not immediately available for further information Tuesday morning.
