Planning Board to vote on new Marriott Headquarters plan
The county’s Planning Board on Thursday is scheduled to review and vote on Marriott’s plans for its new downtown Bethesda headquarters. The hotel giant plans to move its headquarters from a suburban office park on Fernwood Road in Bethesda to the new location at 7750 Wisconsin Ave. in 2021.
The plan calls for a 22-story office building to house 3,500 employees and a 238-room flagship Marriott Hotel next to the office building.
County Council schedule to vote on performance animal bill
The Montgomery County Council on Tuesday is scheduled to review and likely vote on a bill designed to prohibit circuses and other shows from using exotic animals in their performances. The bill would ban shows in the county from using animals such as lions, tigers, wolves, bears, elephants, chimpanzees and others.
The council also is scheduled to vote on a zoning amendment designed to make it easier for distilleries and breweries to locate their operations in commercial centers. The meeting will be the council’s last one before its winter recess. The council is scheduled to return to work in mid-January after the recess.
Politicians to gather for Committee for Montgomery Legislative Breakfast Thursday
This year’s annual Montgomery County political breakfast will feature the eight Democratic gubernatorial candidates, who have confirmed they’ll attend. The event, which the county’s political leadership will attend, runs from 7 to 10 a.m. at the North Bethesda Marriott and Conference Center. Tickets are $75 per person.
The Committee for Montgomery is made up of community leaders who advocate for public policy that improves the general welfare of the county. Gov. Larry Hogan has been invited to the event, but is not expected to attend.
Three chances of snow this week
The National Weather Service expects a mostly sunny Monday with a high near 44 degrees and low around 34 at night. Tuesday is predicted to be breezy with a high near 46 and a 30 percent chance of snow showers at night, when the temperature is expected to drop to around 21 degrees.
Wednesday is expected to be cold with a sunny high near 39 and low around 21. There’s a 30 percent chance of snow Thursday when a high of 37 and nighttime low around 27 is predicted. There’s also a 30 percent chance of snow or rain Friday, with a high near 38 degrees expected.
