Updated 11 a.m. Jan. 8: Bethesda Row restaurant Redwood remains closed and is planning to reopen soon after a pipe burst inside the restaurant due to the recent frigid weather.
Redwood owner Jared Rager said Friday that the pipe burst on New Year’s Day while the crew had the day off. Since then, the restaurant has been closed for several days as workers dried out the restaurant.
The pipe burst over the restaurant’s water heater and other electronic equipment, which Rager said now need to be replaced.
He said Friday afternoon that the restaurant will remain closed throughout the weekend and he hopes to reopen at least a portion of it—the bar and lounge—sometime next week.
Restaurant spokeswoman Lorene Mainguy said Monday that Redwood is still working to dry out the restaurant and bringing in contractors to complete repairs. Part of the restaurant could be open by the middle to end of the week.
The American restaurant occupies a prominent position at Bethesda Row as a centerpiece of the pedestrian-only Bethesda Lane portion of the mixed-use development.
