Federal worker charged in Montgomery County police sex sting
A Silver Spring man, employed as a director in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is charged with sexually soliciting a minor. Michael Goldrosen, 56, communicated by email with someone he thought was a 15-year-old boy to discuss setting up a sexual encounter, court documents state. Female lawmakers prepare proposals for addressing harassment in Annapolis
A group of female lawmakers in Annapolis is pushing for changes to address incidents of sexual harassment in the state Legislature. Few in the Women Legislators of Maryland group are willing to speak openly about their experiences with sexual harassment, afraid of how doing so might affect their careers. The panel is forming recommendations to offer up during the 90-day state legislative session set to begin Wednesday. [Washington Post]
White nationalist interviewed about his firing from teaching job
A white nationalist who was fired by a Kensington school a couple months ago appeared in a television interview Friday. Greg Conte said he thinks diversity causes social problems and said parents at the school, the Academy of the Holy Cross, should’ve “stood up” for his right to hold those beliefs. The academy’s principal has condemned white nationalist views and said they don’t reflect the school’s values. [WJLA]
Leisure World residents want more transparency about sex offenders living nearby
Leisure World residents are meeting with the retirement community’s leadership Jan. 11 in the wake of the arrest of a registered sex offender who lives there. The Frederick Police Department last month charged Ramon Manuel De Los Reyes, 63, with sexually soliciting a minor and second-degree rape. Residents say they want more information and transparency from Leisure World management about the sex offenders in the community. [Montgomery Sentinel]
Fire and rescue warn about dangers of falling through ice
Montgomery County Fire and rescue crews last week practiced pulling people out of icy water. Authorities have responded several times in recent days to rescue people who have fallen through the ice while skating on frozen rivers or whose cars have gotten stuck in frigid water. Officials say there’s no such thing as safe ice; thin patches can exist even on rivers or lakes where ice is thick, they said. [WJLA]

The area could see freezing rain and sleet starting about 1 p.m. Temperatures are expected to climb to about 31 degrees, and there’s a slight chance of snow overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
