Montgomery County Public Schools will close early Monday due to emergency weather conditions, the school system announced this morning.

Schools will dismiss students two-and-a-half hours before regular closing time. Students in pre-K and morning programs will be dismissed at 10:50 a.m.

Afternoon programs and community activities will be canceled, while day care programs in school buildings will remain open.

The National Weather Service forecasts an 80 percent chance of freezing rain and sleet after 1 p.m. The precipitation is expected to continue into the night.

Also, Montgomery College announced that it will close on Monday at noon. All evening activities were canceled.

On Friday, MCPS started two hours late because of icy-cold weather.

School was canceled on Thursday, also because of the cold.

Montgomery County Circuit Court closed at 1 p.m. due to a water-main break, according to a notice posted on the court website.

Montgomery County government offices and departments stayed open on Monday. An optional liberal-leave policy for nonessential employees was in effect.
