The Amazon Books store on Bethesda Row is scheduled to arrive sometime this summer.
A sign posted in the storefront at 7117 Arlington Road announces the forthcoming opening and states the company is now hiring. An Amazon spokeswoman confirmed that the bookseller is slated to open in the summer, but said she couldn’t share additional details.
The e-commerce company has established 13 brick-and-mortar bookstores around the country and has three more in the works.
The location on Bethesda Row will open months after the neighborhood lost its Barnes & Noble bookstore. The Barnes & Noble at the corner of Woodmont and Bethesda avenues closed earlier this month after 20 years of operation, and an Anthropologie store will open in its place in the fall.
Amazon Books will occupy a roughly 6,000-square-foot retail space recently vacated by the Urban Country home furnishings store, which has moved around the corner to 7121 Arlington Road.
Amazon Books stores function as a “physical extension” of the website and carry titles based on factors such as online customer ratings and sales. The brick-and-mortar stores also stock Kindle, Fire tablet, Echo and Fire TV devices.
