The Anthropologie store that will replace Barnes & Noble on Bethesda Row will employ about 100 people after its fall opening, a company spokeswoman said Monday.
“We’ve been excited by all of the enthusiasm for our opening and can’t wait to join the community,” Sara Goodstein, an Anthropologie spokeswoman, wrote in an earlier email.
Barnes & Noble earlier this month vacated the three-level building on Bethesda Avenue after about 20 years selling books there.
The incoming Anthropologie & Co. location will occupy about 24,000 square feet of selling space, about three times the size of an average Anthropologie store, Goodstein said. The store will include Anthropologie’s clothing collection and its wedding and garden and outdoor brands, Goodstein said.
The location will also feature a home design center, furniture showroom and café, she added.
Goodstein said the company will begin recruiting in April for store leadership positions and visual display, merchandising and restaurant staff. Other job opportunities are available in the apparel styling, events, home furnishings, café, beauty, garden, wedding and accessories and shoe departments.
The Bethesda community learned in March 2017 that Barnes & Noble would be leaving Bethesda Row because the business couldn’t come to an agreement about a lease renewal for the space. Federal Realty Investment Trust, owner of Bethesda Row, announced in July that Anthropologie would replace the bookseller in the space.
