A child on a skateboard was struck by a car and seriously injured near an elementary school in North Potomac early Monday evening, according to the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service.
The child was hit at about 5:20 p.m. near Stone Mill Elementary School on Stonebridge View Drive, according to MCFRS spokesman Pete Piringer.
Parents, teachers and bystanders helped free the child, who was pinned by the car, before paramedics arrived, Piringer wrote on Twitter.
Emergency responders took the child to a local hospital with injuries that were considered priority two, using a scale of three with priority one being the most serious. Priority two is used for injuries that are serious but not necessarily life-threatening.
No further information was available Tuesday morning.
Earlier on Monday, three pedestrians were struck by cars in Silver Spring and Bethesda and a cyclist was struck in Gaithersburg, according to Piringer.
