Frozen yogurt might entice some to break a diet or splurge on sweets, but a man in a North Bethesda shop allegedly broke the law to get the treat earlier this month.
Montgomery County police say a man tried to use counterfeit money to buy frozen yogurt at Sweet Frog. When an employee caught him, he flashed a badge and said he was a cop.
Police released a photo of the man on Monday. At about 6 p.m. on Feb. 11, the man used a $100 bill to pay for frozen yogurt at the 11520 Rockville Pike store, near White Flint, according to police. Using a counterfeit detector pen, an employee determined the bill was fake. The employee also noticed some irregularities on the bill.
When the employee said he was calling the police, the man took out what appeared to be a police badge and said he was an officer and would take the bill back, according to police. The employee kept the bill, and the man ran from the store.
Police did not say if he took the frozen yogurt with him.
Police have asked anyone with information about the man to call 240-773-6710 or leave an anonymous tip at 866-411-TIPS (8477) for a reward of up to $10,000 if information leads to an arrest.
