Marijuana legalization up for debate in Annapolis

Maryland lawmakers are considering a bill to legalize medical marijuana fully, among about two dozen cannabis-related measures that on the table this session. Full legalization for recreational use would require a state constitutional amendment, and the bill would bring the matter to a referendum before voters in this year’s election. Rally against gun violence draws hundreds in Rockville

Hundreds gathered in Rockville on Sunday to rally for gun control measures. The event was organized by an anti-gun violence group and was held at the Unitarian Congregation of Rockville. The group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, is advocating for bills keeping guns away from convicted domestic abusers. The organizers said they will also participate next month in the March For Our Lives protest in D.C. [WJLA]

Prosecutors in case of murdered teacher play recorded jailhouse call

Montgomery County prosecutors on Friday played a crowded courtroom a recorded jailhouse phone call involving the man charged with murdering his pregnant girlfriend in September. In the call, Tyler Tessier says it’s in his best interests to delay his trial, since people will gradually forget about the high-profile case. Prosecutors played the recording of the phone call to show that Tessier and his attorney are deliberately trying to delay the trial in the killing of Howard County teacher Laura Wallen.
