The developer behind the project that would replace La Madeleine in downtown Bethesda is looking to turn in an initial planning application this month and hopes to break ground during the summer of next year.
Washington Property Co. has expressed interest in building a roughly 200-unit multifamily complex in place of the French bakery and café at 7607 Old Georgetown Road. The property’s zoning allows for a building of up to 225 feet in height, Bob Dalrymple, an attorney representing the developer, has said.
Washington Property Co., the contract buyer of the roughly 14,700-square-foot site, held a community meeting about the project earlier this week and is presenting initial plans to the Downtown Bethesda Design Advisory Panel on March 21.
If the project is approved by county planners, construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in June 2019, with the building opening two years later.
