Gallery Bethesda II, a 219-unit luxury apartment complex, will be opening its doors in downtown Bethesda in the fall.

The 17-story building is under construction at 4850 Rugby Ave., adjacent to its sister property, Gallery Bethesda, according to a news release. The two apartments are part of Woodmont Central, a Donohoe Cos. project to revitalize the Woodmont Triangle neighborhood.

Gallery Bethesda II will have studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and two-bedroom den units and will include three levels of below-ground parking, a release stated. The apartment community will have an indoor sky lounge, a rooftop pool, a fitness center and an outdoor lounge and kitchen area.

The two apartment buildings will be separated by “Gallery Lane,” a pedestrian walkway lined with about 17,000 square feet of retail space for shops and restaurants, the release said. The plaza will be landscaped and have cafe seating, suspended lighting and illuminated sculptures.

The outdoor space will serve as a place for residents, visitors, pets and the public to gather, the release stated.

A spokeswoman for Donohoe Cos. said there are not yet any retail tenants to announce at Gallery Bethesda II, and the company is working to market the space.

The 234-unit Gallery Bethesda at 4800 Auburn Ave. was completed in 2014. The third element of Donohoe’s Woodmont Central project will be an office building at 8280 Wisconsin Ave., replacing the Sunoco gas station that currently sits on the corner. Pre-leasing is underway for workspace in that property, and a community meeting for the project is scheduled for March 29 at 7 p.m.

Donohoe and MPM Investments have partnered for the project. Donohoe Real Estate Services will handle the retail leasing, and Vantage Management will manage the apartments.
