Metro poised to receive dedicated funding stream
Maryland legislative leaders Thursday agreed to provide $167 million per year to Metro, upping its commitment from $150 million and bringing it in line with Metro funding agreements in Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Once all the agreements are formally approved, Metro will receive its first dedicated funding stream since 1976—a development Metro GM Paul Wiedefeld described as “terrific news.” [Washington Post]
Hogan supports increased Metro funding
Douglass Mayer, Gov. Larry Hogan’s spokesman, said Thursday night that Hogan “is very pleased to learn that the [state] Senate and House have reached agreement” on $167 million in Metro funding per year. D.C. plans to fund the system with $178 million per year while the Virginia legislature approved $154 million per year for the system. [Maryland Matters]
U.S. Senate confirms Robert Hur as U.S. attorney in Maryland
Robert Hur, a 45-year-old Silver Spring resident, spent seven years handling financial and regulatory offenses as a federal prosecutor in Maryland. He also previously worked in the Justice Department working with the assistant attorney general on criminal cases. Hur will replace Rod J. Rosenstein as U.S. attorney in Maryland. Rosenstein left the post last year to become deputy attorney general. [Baltimore Sun]
Washington business leaders cautiously optimistic over region’s apparent front-runner status for Amazon
Montgomery County, Northern Virginia and D.C. are all shortlisted for Amazon’s second headquarters and in recent weeks signs have been appearing that seem to indicate the tech giant may choose one of the three jurisdictions for its new headquarters.
