A new medical cannabis dispensary is gearing up to open in North Bethesda.
PharmaCannis Life will occupy a second-floor space above the Carpet Works on Nicholson Lane and could open by late June, said Jeremy Unruh, public and regulatory affairs director for the dispensary’s parent company.
PharmaCann LLC, an Illinois-based company founded in 2014, already owns eight dispensaries and three cultivation centers in Illinois and New York and is looking to expand to states including Maryland and Pennsylvania, he said. The dispensary in North Bethesda will be ideally situated to serve Montgomery County residents, he said.
“It is in our view the crown jewel of Montgomery County,” Unruh said of the North Bethesda area along Rockville Pike. “We are eager to serve the patients of that area.”
He said the company has signed a long-term lease for the space at 5544 Nicholson Lane, and construction work to outfit it should be done by late May or early June. Among other things, the company is installing an elevator to accommodate patients who aren’t able to climb stairs and adding security features including cameras and access controls.
PharmaCann has already assembled its management team and is working to recruit other staff members. The dispensary will probably employ between six and 12 people, Unruh said.
The dispensary’s arrival was first reported in the Montgomery Newsletter, a subscription-only real estate publication.
