A woman was charged with assault after she allegedly spit on and pepper-sprayed a Ride On bus driver last month in Bethesda.
Montgomery County police announced Monday that three people had been arrested in connection to a March 7 assault that left a bus driver hospitalized with injuries.
According to police, the trio became disorderly after boarding the bus in the area of Nicholson Lane and Nicholson Court. The driver asked the three people to stop being disruptive, and he asked them to leave the bus when they refused. As they got off at Westlake Drive, one woman spit on the driver. The driver then got off the bus, and the woman assaulted and pepper-sprayed him.
Shauntrice Lorea Jackson, a 20-year-old from Damascus, was charged with the assault last week, according to a county police press release. Court records indicate she faces multiple charges including second-degree assault, disruptive behavior, disorderly conduct, failure to pay bus fare, refusal to leave a bus and spitting. Police said she has since been released on a $3,500 bail.
The two teens who were with Jackson were also identified and arrested. Chassadee Monique Martin, 18, of Hillside Drive in Kensington, was charged with disorderly conduct, refusal to leave a bus and disruptive behavior. Bail information was not available for Martin.
A 17-year-old boy from Rockville was charged as a juvenile with second-degree assault, refusal to leave a bus and disruptive behavior. He was released to the custody of his parents. Police do not typically identify individuals charged as juveniles.
Police said detectives were able to identify the three people after they received public tips about them. On March 19, police had released surveillance photographs of the three people in hopes of identifying them.
The tipsters have not yet claimed their reward, and police are asking that they call 866-411-TIPS (8477) and provide their tip number. The callers are eligible for a reward of up to $10,000.
