National Weather Service issues flash flood warning

With rains this morning, flash floods are possible in the Montgomery County area, according to the National Weather Service. The organization warns that floods could continue until 10:30 a.m. Locations susceptible to flooding include Bethesda, Rockville, Germantown, Gaithersburg, Aspen Hill, Potomac, North Potomac, Fairland, White Oak, Damascus and Montgomery Village. Drivers are encouraged to turn around when encountering flooded roads. [National Weather Service]

Appeal rejected for Silver Spring man convicted of killing infant son

The Court of Special Appeals in Maryland rejected the appeal of Moussa Sissoko of Silver Spring. Sissoko was convicted of killing his 3-month-old son in 2001 after he secretly took out a $750,000 life insurance policy on the child. He had initially been convicted in 2002, but was granted a new trial in 2016, when he was again convicted and sentenced to 50 years in prison. [AP]

Paraguayan court sentences man in killing of Rockville teen

A court in Paraguay has sentenced a man to 12 years in prison for the killing of a Rockville-born teen in the South American country. Alejando Villamayor, 16, was found dead in 2015 with a bullet wound to his head. He had moved from Rockville to Paraguay when he was 6. The death was initially considered a suicide, but fingerprints belonging to Rene Hofstetter, 21, were later found on the weapon. Hofstetter’s father owned the ranch where the killing occurred. [AP]

There’s a 90 percent chance of rain, with showers continuing mostly before 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts of up to 22 mph are possible. Showers could return in the evening. Between a quarter and half an inch of rain is possible.
