$338,000 engagement ring stolen outside Boston was sold in Montgomery County
A Potomac man was arrested this month and charged with selling a diamond ring valued at $338,000 that was stolen from a Boston-area home in 2016. The ring was one item of more than $1 million in jewelry stolen in a home burglary that March, and 10 days later it was sold for $21,000 at Diamond Exchange USA in North Bethesda. The man who allegedly sold it is Wendpulumde Bouda, the 25-year-old son of a former Burkina Faso ambassador and World Bank executive. Bouda faces up to 40 years in prison. [ABC7]
Takoma Park police detective died suddenly while off-duty
Acting Detective Sgt. Matthew L. Barber of the Takoma Park police died suddenly last week after working for the department for 13 years. He was off-duty at the time. He is survived by his wife, a D.C. police officer, and two daughters. [Patch]
Germantown man charged with animal cruelty
A Germantown man was arrested in an animal cruelty case that began a month ago when police found a small poodle-mix bleeding from the head and requiring immediate medical attention. Police interviewed Herbert Allen Green, 75, of the 20900 block of Father Hurley Boulevard, and he allegedly admitted to striking the dog, named Benji, and not giving him needed animal care. Benji was diagnosed with recent permanent blindness caused by trauma. Green was charged with three animal cruelty-related offenses. [County police]
Ruth’s Chris in Bethesda to lose liquor license for two weeks
After the restaurant was caught selling alcohol to minors, Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Bethesda will have its liquor license suspended for two weeks this summer. The restaurant allegedly served beer to an underage person at the bar, as well as at least two other incidents in the past five years. Ruth’s Chris has appealed the penalty. [NBC4]
