Tree topples onto Beltway in Bethesda
A tree fell onto the Beltway in Bethesda on Sunday, blocking traffic. The massive tree fell onto lanes on the outer loop, between Interstate 270 and Old Georgetown Road. The downpours have caused trees around the region to topple over onto homes and cars and have led to widespread flooding. All lanes on Route 50 were blocked by standing water in Cheverly for several hours Sunday night. [NBC4]
Young boy charged with making threat against Rockville school
The Parkland Magnet School for Aerospace Technology in Rockville ordered students to shelter in place Friday after receiving a phone threat. Police determined an 11-year-old boy had made the threat. The boy, who was not a Parkland student, was charged with a count of disrupting school activities and one count of making a threat of mass violence. A school official said the caller had made a “general threat” against the school’s students. [WTOP]
Question about Vignarajah’s campaign loan resolved
State elections officials say they have resolved a concern about a personal loan that gubernatorial candidate Krish Vignarajah made to her campaign. Vignarajah had reported in a campaign finance filing that she’d loaned her campaign $100,000. However, her opponents claimed she had no plans to spend the money and was simply using it to increase the apparent size of her war chest. Capitals players ride the Red Line to Saturday’s game
Capitals players T.J. Oshie and Matt Niskanen made their fans’ evening by riding the Metro to the game against the Vegas Golden Knights. The two players took the Red Line from Metro Center to Gallery Place, the stop nearest to the Capital One Arena. The Capitals ended up winning Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals. [Washington Post]
