Delaney could be building name recognition in Iowa
U.S. Rep. John Delaney could be gaining traction among Iowa voters in his 2020 presidential bid, despite starting with almost no name recognition in the state. An internal poll recently conducted for Delaney’s campaign placed him fifth of the potential Democratic candidates in terms of name ID. The survey also found 52 percent of likely Democratic caucusgoers recognized his name. Delaney has already spent about $1 million of his own money on campaign ads in Iowa’s largest cities. [Politico]
Authorities find body of Montgomery County man
The body of a missing Montgomery County man has been found in Ocean City. Cesar Alcides Martinez Saravia, 23, had been reported missing by his friends Sunday morning. His body was recovered from a bayside canal on Monday. Police said there are no obvious signs of foul play, but Martinez Saravia’s body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. [Delmarva Now]
Caps fan arrested for pole-climbing stunt
A Capitols fan who hails from Silver Spring got some social media attention—and was arrested—for climbing to the top of a streetlight pole in Chinatown on Saturday. When Jay Bassich, 22, was released from jail on Monday, he went straight to watch Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals with other fans on F Street. Videos of Bassich scaling the light pole during Saturday’s post-game celebration went viral, but his family didn’t hear from him for about 40 hours after the event. He’d been arrested and charged with climbing the pole, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. [Washington Post]
Jealous, Baker lead pack in Democratic race for governor
A new poll among Maryland voters puts former NAACP president Benjamin Jealous and Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker III in the lead for the Democratic gubernatorial primary. But nearly 40 percent of voters haven’t yet decided which candidate will get their support, according to the Washington Post-University of Maryland poll. Meanwhile, Republican Gov. Larry Hogan continues to enjoy high levels of popularity in the left-leaning state. His job approval rating stands at about 71 percent among Marylanders. [Washington Post]
