Police let media observe mental health training class

Montgomery County police this week let the media inside one of the mental health first aid classes taken by officers. The decision to open up the class followed a recent, fatal officer-involved shooting of Robert Lawrence White, whose friends say he had mental health issues. Montgomery County voters are getting flooded with campaign mailers in the lead-up to Tuesday’s primary election. The battle between gubernatorial candidates Ben Jealous and Rushern L. Baker III is following a pattern that had emerged in Democratic contests nationwide. Baker, the Prince George’s County executive, is the party’s establishment candidate. On the other hand, Jealous, who has gotten support from Sen. D.C. cardinal faces “credible” allegation of sexual abuse 

A D.C. cardinal has been removed from ministry because of a “credible” report that he sexually abused a teenager in New York about four decades ago. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick is one of the highest-ranking U.S. church officials to face accusations in the sexual abuse scandal that has roiled the church. McCarrick, 87, is the retired archbishop for D.C. [WJLA]
