Two residents and a firefighter suffered injuries that weren’t life threatening in a town house fire in Gaithersburg that broke out around 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer said the two residents were transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s burn unit to be treated for the injuries. He said the firefighter suffered a minor medical emergency and was also transported to a hospital, but is expected to be treated and released.

Piringer said about 100 firefighters responded to the scene on Oriole Place just off Quail Valley Boulevard and it took them about 30 to 40 minutes to get the fire under control after arriving to find heavy fire conditions.

The two people inside the home jumped from the building’s second floor to escape, according to Piringer.

The townhouse was completely destroyed and Piringer warned Thursday morning “the collapse of this structure is imminent.” He said the cause of the fire is under investigation. A neighbor called firefighters to report the fire.

An adjacent townhouse also appeared to be significantly damaged due to the fire.
