Two individuals broke through a glass door of the Montgomery County-owned liquor store in downtown Bethesda last week and stole alcohol before fleeing in a stolen vehicle, according to county police.
The incident happened around 5:40 a.m. June 21 at the liquor store at 4920 Hampden Lane. Surveillance video released by police shows the two individuals throwing a car jack through the glass door and then both men entering the store.
They proceeded to rummage through the cash register, then grabbed bottles of liquor to fill their backpacks. One later returned and grabbed two cases of beer. The two spent about two and a half minutes inside the store before fleeing in a vehicle that police said was stolen and was driven by an accomplice. Investigators believe the vehicle was stolen from the Connecticut Avenue Estates neighborhood in Wheaton sometime between 10 p.m. June 10 and the time of the burglary on June 21.
One of the two individuals who entered the store used a T-shirt to partially cover his face, while the other wore a black hoodie that covered most of the person’s head, according to the video.
