Anything Goes—Friday through July 22—F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, Rockville
The Tony Award-winning musical, Anything Goes, which ran for 420 performances on Broadway in the 1930s and has seen a range of revivals since then, is coming to the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville this summer starting Friday. The Rockville Musical Theatre, which produces three musicals each year, will kick off its first performance of Anything Goes at 8 p.m.
The show will run through July 22 for a total of eight performances. Friday and Saturday night performances will be at 8 and Sunday performances at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $23 for seniors (ages 62 and up) and students.
Shy Glizzy—Friday night—The Fillmore, Silver Spring
The rapper from Washington, D.C., Shy Glizzy, famous for his hit, “Awwsome,” is returning to The Fillmore, where he has performed multiple times since his first album came out in 2011. His most recent album release is Quiet Storm.
The show starts at 8 p.m. and general admission tickets are on sale for $30.
Fridays on the Plaza—every Friday night—3 Bethesda Metro Center, Bethesda
The reggae band, I & I Riddim, named “best band” by D.C. Reggae Awards in 2012, 2013 and 2014 is kicking off the free concert series, Fridays on the Plaza, which will take place in Bethesda Metro Center Plaza outside the Metro station at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue, Old Georgetown Road and East West Highway.
The concert is free and will run from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday through August 31. Discount parking is available at the 3 Bethesda Metro Center garage with a validation from the concert.
Words Out Loud Spoken Word Series—Friday night—Room 302, North Arcade Building, Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo
The first Friday of every month at Glen Echo Park, authors read from their works, followed by an open mic session. This Friday’s performance will feature Pamela Murray Winters, a poet and the author of The Unbeckonable Bird, and Hiram Larew, the author of three poetry collections.
The event is free and will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the North Arcade Building.
Joe Clair & Friends—Saturday night—Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club, Bethesda
The Joe Clair & Friends comedy show returns to the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club this Saturday night for its monthly show. The show will feature comedians Steven Brown, Ashima Franklin and Freddie Ricks.
Performances are at 7 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $25. Joe Clair & Friends hosts a comedy show at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club on the first Saturday every month.
Nando’s Spicy Saturday Night Concert Series—Saturday nights through Sep. 29—Lakefront Plaza, RIO Washingtonian Center, Gaithersburg
The rock, blues and country band, Loose Ends, is performing at Lakefront Plaza in Gaithersburg’s RIO Washingtonian Center on Saturday night as part of the weekly live summer concert series presented by Nando’s. Loose Ends is a D.C.-area band that performs a mix of covers from popular 1960s bands and original songs.
Admission to the event is free and the concert will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Creature Feature—Sunday afternoon—Brookside Nature Center, Wheaton Regional Park
A naturalist will discuss the wildlife around Wheaton Regional Park from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday as part of the weekly “Creature Feature” discussion.
Admission is free. The discussion is intended for all ages above 1 year old.
