Party Like It’s 1999 and So Fetch—Friday night—The Fillmore, Silver Spring
Hit songs from the 1990s and the early 2000s will be played on Friday night at The Fillmore as part of “a battle of the bands decades-edition.” The band, Party Like its 1999, will blast ’90s hits from popular bands such as Nirvana, No Doubt and Third Eye Blind. Another tribute band, So Fetch, will play songs from performers such as Kanye West, Outkast and Paramore, among others. Guests are encouraged to dress up in outfits representing their favorite decade for a costume contest.
General admission tickets for the 8:30 p.m. show are available for $15.50. Guests must be 18 and older to attend the show.
Zouk DJ Dance—Friday night—Glen Echo Park, Glen Echo
Dance the night away on Friday with international dance teacher Lucia Kubasova and District Zouk, a dance community based in D.C. devoted to Brazilian zouk, a type of partner dance. The night includes a flash mob training, a Brazilian zouk class with Kubasova and free dance.
Admission into the event is $15 before 10 p.m. and $10 after 10 p.m. The event will run from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. and is recommended for ages 18 and up. The event will take place in the Ballroom Back Room at Glen Echo.
Summer Sidewalk Sale—Friday, Saturday and Sunday—Bethesda Lane, Bethesda
All weekend, participating stores and restaurants on Bethesda Lane will be offering samples and discounts at an annual summer sidewalk sale, set with live music and giveaways. Plus, enter a contest to win $100 to spend at Follain, a beauty product store.
The free event runs all weekend and includes live music daily from noon to 4 p.m.
SportsFest—Saturday—Bohrer Park, Gaithersburg
Games and activities in soccer, football, baseball, track and field, basketball, tennis and other sports will be organized on Saturday morning as part of the annual SportsFest, hosted by the city of Gaithersburg. The event kicks off with a 1k fun run; a select number of prizes will be available for participants.
The free event will run from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and will take place rain or shine.
Feinstein’s Cabaret at AMP: Marilyn Maye—Saturday night—AMP by Strathmore, North Bethesda
American cabaret singer Marilyn Maye has appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson 76 times—more than any other singer. At age 90, Maye will perform at AMP Strathmore on Saturday night, singing some of her hit songs such as “Step to the Rear” and “Sherry!”
Tickets for the performance range from $30 to $40. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8.
Healthy Parks, Healthy People 5k Fun Run/Walk—Sunday morning—Brookside Gardens, Wheaton
As part of the kick off for Latino Conservation Week, Latino Outdoors and Brookside Gardens is hosting a 5k fun run and walk through the garden’s HeartSmart Trail at Brookside Gardens on Sunday morning. Latino Conservation Week is aimed at increasing outdoor opportunities for the Latino community.
Runners can choose to participate in the 7 or 9 a.m. 5k. On-site registration for the 7 a.m. 5k begins at 6:30 a.m. and on-site registration begins at 8:30 for the 9 a.m. start. Admission is free.
