Bethesda building boom
Downtown Bethesda is experiencing a bit of a building boom, with three “trophy office buildings” under construction with a fourth on the way. Marriott’s future downtown headquarters may be the draw. Remembering those lost at The Capital-Gazette
Members of Congress held a moment of silence on Wednesday to honor the five people fatally shot at the Capital Gazette newspaper office two weeks ago. Rep. AnthonyBrown (D-4th) spoke before the moment of silence about the victims: Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith and Wendi Winters. “Those who were senselessly gunned down were members of our valued local press corps,” said Brown. “In America, we cherish and value our free and independent press. …We should not tolerate threats and hatred directed at the media and should support those who bring us the news every day.” [Washington Post]
Controversy over proposed Takoma Park development
A proposed development in the city of Takoma Park attracted protesters this week. Residents opposing the proposed Takoma Junction project held a giant, fabric semi-truck sign opposing the development before a city council work session on Wednesday. The project has already received approvals from the council at various stages of development and will vote again at the end of this month. [NBC4]
