VIA MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Montgomery County is contracting out the management of the Silver Spring Innovation Center to Launch Workplaces and has announced upgrades to the building.

Launch Workplaces is a company that runs hybrid workspace centers for small businesses and entrepreneurs, according to a county news release.

“The transition to a private sector management firm is part of the county’s new strategy to foster private sector involvement when it comes to attracting and retaining businesses and growing the economy,” County Executive Ike Leggett said in a news release.

The remodeling project at the 20,000-square-for building will benefit the technology and digital media start-ups that occupy the space, the release stated. The center at 8070 Georgia Ave. can host up to 20 small businesses.

The county’s three-year contract with Launch Workplaces runs through June 30, 2021.

“Flexible workspaces by their nature serve as innovation centers,” Mike Kriel, chief executive officer of Launch Workplaces, said in the release.  “By partnering with Montgomery County to manage the Silver Spring Innovation Center powered by Launch, like-minded innovators can work in a space that encourages them to grow in an entrepreneurial community with a focus on educational programming and advancement.”
