John and Gina Carlson VIA GINA CARLSON ON INSTAGRAM

It’s been a good year for Washington Capitals star defenseman John Carlson. He and his wife, Gina, had their second child in May, the Capitals won their first Stanley Cup championship in June, and he signed a new $64 million contract a few weeks later.

In the midst of all that, the Carlsons also bought a new house.

The couple purchased and are currently renovating a six-bedroom, 3,900-square-foot home on .8 acres on Bradley Lane in Chevy Chase, between Connecticut Avenue and Brookville Road. The American Foursquare was built in 1916 and was last on the market 46 years ago. The closing price was $2.54 million, according to MRIS.

According to the June newsletter published by Chevy Chase, Section Three, the house is within a few blocks of the homes of Gina’s sister, Antoinette; her brother, Marcello; and her parents, Lorraine and Marcello Nucci Sr.

Gina Carlson grew up in Chevy Chase and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School.

The Carlsons purchased the new home in March, despite not knowing what team John would sign with as a free agent when the season ended. After his new contract with the Capitals was announced in late June, Gina Carlson posted on Instagram that “Home is where (a few months ago) we secretly hoped we’d be staying in dc & bought land to build the southern home & big front porch we’ve always dreamed of having together.”

The Carlsons currently live in the Somerset neighborhood of Chevy Chase in a 5,800-square-foot house purchased in 2015 for $3.37 million.
