Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning for Bethesda resident Stephen Greenhouse, a fertility specialist and father of three who was killed Saturday while riding a personal watercraft off Fenwick Island, Delaware, according to authorities.
Greenhouse, 53, was operating the craft in Roy’s Creek, off Assawoman Bay in Sussex County, around 1:40 p.m. when the accident occurred, according to the Delaware Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources police. He was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Maryland. Police continue to investigate the accident, but said alcohol was not a contributing factor, according to a press statement.
Greenhouse was employed by Shady Grove Fertility, which has an office in Rockville among its 32 sites in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Florida and Georgia. The center announced Greenhouse’s death Monday morning in a statement posted on its website and sent to patients. Greenhouse practiced at the center’s Fair Oaks and Haymarket offices in Virginia, and was known as a “kind and humorous leader,” according to the website.
“Steve will be remembered at SGF and in the Washington, D.C., medical community by the thousands of lives he touched in both small and large ways,” the center said in its statement. “His passion for medicine and for his patients was a driving force behind Steve’s professional life. His patients appreciated his expertise and loved him for his generosity of time and attention during a difficult period in their lives.”
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Road, Rockville. Interment will follow at Garden of Remembrance, Clarksburg.
Greenhouse is survived by his wife, Robyn, and sons Ryan, Tyler and Dylan, the center said in its statement. “Steve was a dedicated father, husband, son, and brother. He had many friends and was always ready to share a story from the last family bike trip or other vacation, or the latest book he read. Steve was also a quiet, but involved philanthropist, working to advance the causes he and his family valued,” the statement said.
