A Bethesda resident will appear in the national finals of the American Ninja Warrior competition.
Gavin Ross, who goes by the moniker Paddle Ninja, placed 10th in the Philadelphia city finals of the competition, which aired Monday night on NBC.
Ross, 22, is a sprint canoeist and a member of the Washington Canoe Club.
He fell just short of qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games, along with his sprint partner, his brother, Ian.
The pair has said they’ll be back to compete for entrance into the 2020 games.
Gavin Ross is a rookie in the ninja competition, in which athletes traverse obstacles that challenge their agility, balance and strength.
Ross went down on an obstacle called the Captain’s Wheel, in which ninjas hang from the handles of a ship’s wheel, while rotating the disc to lock it in place and jump to another.
Ross moved on to the national finals, held this year in Las Vegas.
The national finals were taped in June and will begin airing on Aug. 27.
