Fuddruckers closes in Rockville
Burger restaurant Fuddruckers has closed in Rockville.
The restaurant at 1592A Rockville Pike shut down on Friday.
Fuddruckers is operated by restaurant company Luby’s Inc., which also controls Koo Koo Roo and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
The company posted a net loss of $5.3 million during the third quarter ending in early June, despite closing several locations across all brands for the past year, according to its most recent financial report.
Luby’s has closed at least 18 Fuddruckers units since mid-2018 and refranchised five company-owned locations. Guest traffic fell 8.7% in the third quarter 2019 compared to the same period in 2018.
The lone remaining local Fuddruckers is in Silver Spring.

Smashburger returns to Rockville Pike
Fast-casual burger restaurant Smashburger is back at Rockville Pike after closing in March.
The restaurant at 1800 Rockville Pike Suite A received an eviction notice five months ago, and news reports in June suggested the location would not return.
Smashburger locations in Bethesda, Gaithersburg and Germantown closed in 2017.
The Smashburger chain debuted in 2007.

Free High Holidays tasting at Heckman’s Deli
Heckman’s Deli in Bethesda has provided traditional food for the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur for years, and will now give customers a sneak preview of its offerings.
The complimentary tasting will feature brisket, smoked salmon, whitefish and corned beef, among other items. There will also be a kosher wine sampling.
Customers attending the event will receive special discounts for placing orders in advance or ordering from Heckman’s partnering wine vendor.
