High school football — Walter Johnson at Quince Orchard — Friday
The Quince Orchard High School Cougars host the Walter Johnson High School Wildcats at the Cougar Dome on its Gaithersburg campus. The game is in the second round of the state football playoffs.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and the game starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6.
Holiday tree lighting — Silver Spring — Saturday
Downtown Silver Spring holds a holiday tree lighting ceremony and block party. The celebration will include a lighting of a “colorbound tree” holiday installation, a photo booth, food, beer and live music.

Comedy as a Second Language — Chevy Chase — Saturday
Improbable Comedy presents Comedy as a Second Language, which features performances from immigrants and first-generation comics. The show is being held at Temple Shalom in Chevy Chase, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

Holiday jazz concert — Bethesda — Saturday
The Bethesda Public Library hosts a holiday jazz piano concert, in which soloist Matthew Keadle will perform music from “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The free event begins at 2:30 p.m.
