A Silver Spring man has been charged with sexually assaulting and robbing a woman he met on a dating application, Montgomery County police said Friday.
Demitrious Harriott, 24, met the woman at an apartment building in the 8500 block of 16th Street in Silver Spring around 2:30 a.m. Friday, police said. According to police, Harriott pushed the woman into a hallway, sexually assaulted her and slammed her face into a concrete wall. He then took her cellphone and fled, police said.
Police arrested Harriott at 6:15 a.m. and charged him with second-degree rape, second-degree assault and robbery.
Police announced Harriott’s arrest in a press release Friday evening.
Police only gave a block number for Harriott’s address and for the location of the assault. Harriott’s address, according to court records, matches the Summit Hills Apartment complex.
A letter from Juanita Denson, the property manager for the apartment complex, to community residents on Friday alerts them that a sexual assault occurred on the property earlier that day. Denson wrote in the letter that surveillance footage from cameras on the property helped officers in their investigation. Harriott was not named in the letter.
Harriott is due in court Dec. 13, according to court records. No attorney information was listed.
