Booz Allen Hamilton, a management and information technology consulting firm based in Northern Virginia, moved a Montgomery County office from Rockville to downtown Bethesda this month.

Booz Allen, which has more than 7,900 employees in offices throughout the greater Washington, D.C., area (another 6,000 company employees in the area are not office-based), has more than 500 employees working out of the Bethesda office at any given time, according to Deane Edelman, the vice president for real estate and facilities operations.

The space in Bethesda has capacity for 758. The number of employees in the office can vary from day to day because they have the option to work in different local offices.

Booz Allen was at 1 Preserve Pkwy in Rockville. The company announced in 2017 that it would move to a 65,000-square-foot space at 4747 Bethesda Ave., which was being built at the time. Edelman wrote Tuesday that Booz Allen is on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors.

Work moved to the new space in Bethesda during the first two weeks this month, Edelman wrote. The move was completed by Nov. 15.

Edelman wrote that Booz Allen chose the downtown Bethesda building because of its proximity to several of its clients. He added that it is also near many restaurants, bike paths and the Bethesda Metro station.

Booz Allen recently employed a “NexGen” workplace concept in which employees work in different parts of the office throughout the day. Edelman wrote that the new building embraces this idea.

“There are different workspace options that allow our employees to move throughout the day in settings that fit their needs – from collaboration rooms, individual desks, huddle rooms, team rooms, meeting booths, privacy cubbies, lounges and focus areas,” he wrote. “Team neighborhoods provide a cohesive environment for those working on the same projects to be near one another.”

Edelman added that the diversity of workspaces helps “promote wellness, social cohesion and collaboration” among employees and with clients. Booz Allen has more than 80 offices around the world.

Asked whether Booz Allen would hire more employees at the Bethesda office, Edelman wrote that the firm is “hiring broadly around the country” and that the Bethesda office has “room for organic growth.”
